When it was introduced late last year, the first Samsung Galaxy Tab came in surprising 7-inch package. Running on Android 2.2, it was a very portable tablet that kept users connected to the Internet to engage in social networking or check email, listen to music, watch movies, make phone calls, and engage in a whole bunch of work and play activities.

This 7-inch-wonder was well-received by consumers not only here but in the global landscape as well, persuading global tech giant Samsung to improve on the product and introduce more Tabs of different screen sizes.

Now, here come the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, two ultra-thin tablets that boast of power and features, which can altogether encourage users to engage more in the tablet habit.

The Sexy Tab

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 owes its sleek, slim profile to its bigger sibling, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, introduced a few months back. For its size category, it is by far the thinnest tablet measuring at an astonishingly svelte 8.6 millimeters. Weighing 465g, it is well-designed, feels wonderful in the hand, and is just basically a cool-looking device all around, easy to tote around in a basic shoulder bag or handbag.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is built with a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor, WXGA TFT display (1280×800 resolution) and fortified by strong and scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, making it a powerhouse on the go for today’s growing population of tablet users.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 shares many other features and services with the premium Tab 10.1 including Samsung’s TouchWiz UX and the latest Android Honeycomb 3.1 operating system. Of course, this also gives one access to the hundreds of thousands of free apps available for download on the Android Marketplace, sure to suit any need.

User interfaces differentiate one Android product from another, and from this differentiation you could tell if an Android tablet is of premium quality or not. Unique to Samsung Android devices is the Touch Wiz UX, an interface that seamlessly integrates well with Honecomb 3.1 OS to deliver a truly customize and interactive tablet use.

It has Home screen of Live Panel that offers the users with easy access to weather updates, social networking accounts, news, email, and photo gallery.

The Galaxy tab 8.9 user interface also incorporated a “Mini Mode Tray,” a one-touch access to commonly used applications such as Task Manager, Calendar, World Clock, Pen Memo, Calculator and Music Player.

One of the best features of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 (and the one I personally found the most useful) is the “Clipboad” function, which is an advanced copy-and-paste feature that allows users to screen-print web pages. YouTube links, photos, or whatever on the screen, and the images are saved on the clipboard, which can be easily shared via email, note app, or social networking sites.

This feature is good for storing or retrieving ideas, or sharing them to others for further corroboration and inputs.
As it is a Samsung device, you can bet that it has an extremely capable photo editor to enhance images you capture or download. You can rotate, crop, and adjust colors of the photos.

Truly an impressive Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is packed with entertainment, productivity and content sharing services.

Users need not to go directly to Facebook, Yahoo! Email, or messaging apps, separately as they can now just access the Social Hub to get their consolidated email, messaging, calendar, and social network updates.

Meanwhile, the Readers Hub app makes the Galaxy Tab the ideal e-book as it provides access to a robust library of more than 2.2 million books, 2,000 newspapers and 2,300 magazines.

Having a “cloud lifestyle” is now easy with the Galaxy Tab 8.9, which offers a suit of Google Mobile services such as Gmail, Google Account(for the cloud syncing of calendar and contacts), Google Search, Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps and Google Talk, as well as access to the Android market, which offers more than 250,2000 applications.

And since the Galaxy Tab 8.9 features dual cameras and support for full HD playback, users can fully take advantage of video and voice calls that can be activated through Google talk, or other voice-over-IP apps such as Tango or Viber.

The galaxy Tab 8.9 also throws in a free office suite software, Polaris, where users can create, viewand edit word documents, make spreadsheets and presentations, In addition, Mobile Printing app allows users to print documents and pictures wirelessly to any compatible printer.

“These additions to the Galaxy family of products are impressive examples of our commitment to provide consumers with an unrivaled array of choices for entertainment and information on-the-go,” said Binggoy Mauricio, Business Unit Director for Samsung Electronics Philippines’ Mobile Division. “People want their mobile device to fit their lifestyle and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 offer unparalleled power and portability to meet the widest consumer needs.”
